World Bipolar Day Art Competition

In partnership with TalkNaija and Mani, we hosted an art/poetry competition centered around Bipolar Disorder for World Bipolar Disorder Day on Friday, March 30 2018 at 16/16 in Victoria Island, Lagos Nigeria. We called the competition Words with a Pulse as we invited both artist and poets to recite their art visualizing Bipolar Disorder. Our aim was to help break down the stigma surrounding mental health and help sufferers realize they are not alone.

Although participants only had 12 days to submit their work, we still received a great amount of entries. In total, 30 creatives submitted art and poems visualizing Bipolar Disorder from Lagos to Abuja, and even the UK! The evening included light refreshments, an open forum discussing bipolar disorder facts, statistics, misconceptions, etc. moderated by Mani's Dr. Wande Dipeolu, and of course live and video recitations from our participants. At the end of the night we rewarded the top poet and top artist each $100! Our winners Ayomipo Amiola (poem) and Popoola Nurudeen (art) took the cash prize home!
